A young girl is heartbroken after her heroin-addicted parents were discovered unresponsive in their home bathroom
Swansea: A little girl was left in shock after she found her parents unresponsive in their bathroom. It’s a heartbreaking situation, really. She thought they were just asleep but couldn’t wake them up.
In January last year, the girl called her grandparents, crying and clearly upset. When the police arrived, they found a mess of used needles and drug paraphernalia scattered around. The parents didn’t even seem to know where their daughter was.
This poor girl, who’s still in primary school, has been placed under an interim care order and is no longer living with her parents. The court heard that her parents, both in their 30s and 40s, had been using heroin daily for years, even after putting their daughter to bed.
The mother admitted she used heroin just to feel good, not because of any past trauma. It’s just so sad. The girl found her parents on the bathroom floor and couldn’t get them to respond, so she called her grandparents for help.
While her grandmother rushed to her, her grandfather found the mother in bed, slurring her words and not caring about her daughter’s well-being. The father was found among the drug mess, claiming he had food poisoning. It’s just a chaotic scene.
By the time the police got there, the mother had no idea where her daughter was and blamed a bad batch of heroin for her state. They found a ton of drug paraphernalia and even bottles of methadone in the house.
When questioned, the mother insisted her drug use didn’t affect her parenting. The father, on the other hand, tried to downplay the situation, saying their daughter was overreacting. They had even been warned by social services not to use drugs at the same time.
In court, both parents admitted to neglecting their child. The father had a history of drug-related offenses, while the mother had her own troubling past. It’s a tough situation for everyone involved.
The judge called the case disturbing and pointed out that their daughter found them in such a state. He warned them that heroin addiction leads to a grim future, and the real punishment was losing custody of their daughter.
They both received suspended sentences and were ordered to complete rehab programs. The mother also has to do community service, while the father is too unwell to work. It’s a tough road ahead for them, but they’ve got to face the consequences of their actions.
