A young dad was discovered dead, bound with parcel tape, in a remote area
Huddersfield: A young dad was found dead in a remote area. Rhys Thompson had parcel tape around his wrists and neck. An investigation revealed he had been badly beaten in what was called an unlawful killing.
Rhys was discovered on a private road. He had multiple injuries, including severe head trauma. The inquest showed he suffered nine blows to the head and had broken bones.
His body was found on May 13, 2021, in Rishworth, near Huddersfield. Some injuries were defensive, suggesting he tried to protect himself during the attack.
Police previously arrested suspects in Rhys’ murder, but no charges have been filed. The inquest revealed he was subjected to a prolonged and vicious assault.
When found, Rhys’ legs were crossed, and his arms were bound with tape. A piece of tape was also found nearby. His body was not hidden, located near a hunting lodge.
The pathologist stated the tape was not used to strangle him. It might have been used to restrain him or to help move his body.
Dr. Parsons concluded Rhys died from head injuries. His mother shared that he was a loving father and had been working as a courier driver.
Before his death, Rhys seemed down, according to his mom. She expressed how much she misses him and described him as a pleasure to have around.
The coroner confirmed the homicide investigation is ongoing. Rhys was involved in a cannabis raid when he was ambushed by a group of men.
He tried to escape in a van but crashed into a wall. Witnesses reported a fight involving men with metal bars. Rhys was taken away in another vehicle.
The coroner stated Rhys’ death was an unlawful killing. He hopes the investigation leads to the capture of those responsible.
Rhys’ family remembered him as a sweet, funny, and warm-hearted man. They described him as a fantastic brother and devoted father.
