After a serious car accident, Aberdeenshire siblings regain confidence through a charity talent show
Stonehaven: An Aberdeenshire mum is singing the praises of a charity talent show that helped her kids bounce back after a serious car accident. Mollie, 11, and her nine-year-old brother Josh took part in the Archie Variety Show last May and are gearing up for another round this year.
The siblings were supported by The Archie Foundation after a nasty car crash in 2019. Josh faced some tough injuries, including a messed-up hip and broken collarbone, while Mollie had both arms broken. Their mum, Kat, says the show really helped lift their spirits.
Kat shared that Josh was in a body brace for three months, and Mollie struggled with her confidence and body image after the accident. But being part of the Archie Variety Show gave her a huge boost and helped her come out of her shell.
She also mentioned how the Archie Foundation was a lifesaver during their hospital stay, providing a room for her and her husband at the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital. They even brought toys and activities to keep the kids entertained while they were recovering.
Now, Josh and Mollie are super excited to prepare their jokes and songs for the upcoming event at the Tivoli Theatre in Aberdeen on April 19. It’s a special occasion since the show is raising funds for The Archie Foundation’s 25th anniversary.
Applications are still open for other kids who’ve been helped by The Archie Foundation and NHS Grampian to join in the fun for the 2025 show. They’re looking for dancers, singers, comedians, and more, and no experience is needed!
Kat’s father-in-law spotted the Variety Show online and thought it would be perfect for the kids. Josh, who loves magic, got to develop a magic act, while Mollie, who’s a bit shy, was teamed up with other girls to sing and dance together.
They had a blast both on stage and backstage, getting all glammed up and soaking in the applause. Josh even made some friends he still keeps in touch with, and the whole family loved connecting with others who have similar stories.
Kat encourages other kids to get involved too, saying it was an emotional experience for everyone. The Variety Show, sponsored by TEXO and supported by the Tivoli, promises a lineup of exciting acts.
Organizer Cassie McGunnigle, a volunteer with Archie, said this year’s show will celebrate the unique talents of the kids. They’ve extended the application deadline to make sure everyone has a chance to join in.
Cassie hopes to bring in industry pros as mentors to help the kids feel ready for their big moment. Chris Smith, managing director of TEXO, expressed excitement about continuing their support for the Variety Show, highlighting the amazing work Archie does for local families in need.
