Dublin: Many folks might not know about a cool scheme that lets part-time workers claim up to €250 weekly on top of their wages. It’s called the Part-Time Job Incentive (PTJI) Scheme, and it’s designed for those on jobseeker’s allowance who want to ease back into work.

This scheme is a lifesaver for people who’ve been on long-term jobseeker’s allowance. It helps them get back on their feet by supplementing their income while they look for full-time jobs. But there are a couple of conditions to keep in mind if you want to apply.

First off, you need to be working part-time, which means less than 24 hours a week. You also have to have been on long-term jobseeker’s allowance for at least 312 days. If you were on jobseeker’s benefit or the Covid-19 payment before that, those days count too. Plus, your weekly jobseeker’s payment should be at least €154.60 if you’re single or €252.10 if you have a qualified adult with you.

Once you’re in, you’ll need to stick with the scheme for at least two months. You can juggle more than one part-time job, but remember, the total hours must stay under 24. And, unfortunately, self-employed folks can’t join in on this one.

You can stay on the PTJI scheme for a year, and there’s a chance to extend it. If you land a full-time gig but then lose it, you can go back to your PTJI claim as long as you meet the conditions again. Just keep in mind that the allowance will only be paid for the time you haven’t used before.

As for the money, instead of your usual payment, you’ll get €154.60 a week if you’re single or €252.10 if you have a qualified adult. The best part? This allowance isn’t taxed, but your wages will be taxed as usual.

To apply, just reach out to your Intreo Centre or local Social Welfare Branch Office once you’ve got your part-time job. You’ll fill out an application form and your employer will need to confirm your hours every four weeks. Just make sure to return the forms on time, or your payments will be paused until they’re received. Payments are made weekly, so it’s pretty straightforward!
