Dozens of employees at Cranswick Convenience Foods in Hull are at risk of redundancy due to operational costs and business losses.
Hull: Dozens of workers at a local factory are facing redundancy risks. Cranswick Convenience Foods held a meeting this week to discuss potential job cuts. They cited high operational costs and a drop in business as reasons for the layoffs.
Employees from various departments received letters stating their roles are at risk. The company plans to cut around 100 jobs after a 30-day consultation period. This has left many workers anxious about their future.
One anonymous worker shared their concerns. They mentioned that the company is considering reducing the number of slicer operatives from nine to five. Other roles, including team leaders and office staff, are also at risk.
The worker expressed frustration, especially since they moved to Hull for this job. They noted that some employees have been with the company for nearly 20 years. The consultation period ends on March 1, leaving many uncertain about their jobs.
Cranswick operates several sites in Hull and East Yorkshire, but only the Sutton Fields location is affected by these proposed redundancies. The worker also mentioned personal challenges, as their partner is pregnant and they are the sole income provider.
A spokesperson for Cranswick acknowledged the situation. They stated that the company is starting a consultation process for those at risk. They also expressed a commitment to help employees find other job opportunities within the company.
