A woman involved in a child abuse ring in Glasgow has avoided additional punishment despite her conviction for assaulting a child.
Glasgow: So, there’s this woman, Marianne Gallagher, who got caught up in a pretty awful child abuse case. She was found guilty of hitting and kicking a child in a drug den, but here’s the kicker—she won’t face any more punishment. Crazy, right?
Even though the judge called her actions “reprehensible,” she’s the only one from the group not added to the sex offenders’ list. She was allowed to walk out on bail after her conviction in November 2023. The whole thing went down during an eight-week trial that revealed some truly disturbing stuff.
Gallagher was part of a group that included seven others, all of whom were involved in some horrific abuse of children. They were accused of gang raping a child and doing other terrible things in a place where drugs were rampant. Some of them even tried to murder a child by trapping her in a microwave. Just mind-blowing.
The trial revealed that these offenses happened between 2012 and 2019, and there were even wild claims about Satanic rituals. But, thankfully, those allegations didn’t stick, and three people were acquitted.
In court, it came out that Gallagher had a baby recently and is still battling addiction. She was convicted for “occasionally” hitting and kicking a child, which the judge said usually wouldn’t even be handled in a High Court.
Her lawyer argued that she had spent time in custody and hadn’t committed any offenses in the past year. The judge acknowledged the lengthy process and decided not to impose further punishment, saying she was in a different situation than the others involved.
He warned her that if she messes up again, she’ll be in serious trouble. For now, she’s just been admonished, and that’s it. It’s a wild story, and it really makes you think about the justice system.
