A woman is shocked after discovering flooding in her home following heavy rainfall that caused chaos in her neighborhood
Ormskirk: Catherine Fearnley, 48, is still reeling from a shocking experience. She woke up around 5 AM to strange noises in her house. Thinking someone had broken in, she went downstairs only to find ice-cold water everywhere.
She was terrified and ran back upstairs. It turns out her home was one of many affected by severe flooding after heavy rain hit the area on New Year’s Eve. The Sandy Brook and Hurlston Brook overflowed, causing chaos.
Catherine thought the noise was just partygoers outside, but it was the floodwaters rising. She described the moment as surreal, saying it felt like something out of a news report, not something that could happen to her.
Floodwater was coming from beneath her home, and at least 20 houses in the area were impacted. She recalled seeing people rescued in boats as five inches of water filled her downstairs.
Sadly, she lost everything down there—furniture, her TV, and even a washing machine. The worst part? She had sentimental items that can’t be replaced, like memory boxes from her dad and boyfriend.
Catherine had moved back to Ormskirk to be closer to her dad after he passed away. Now, she feels like she can’t go back to that home, fearing it could flood again.
For the past week, she’s been staying with friends, grateful for their support. She’s given notice on her rental because she just can’t face going back. Everything she worked hard to set up is now in ruins.
She’s trying to figure out her next steps, looking for new accommodation while living out of bags. A GoFundMe has been set up to help her during this tough time.
