Galway: A woman has sadly passed away after being pulled from the waters in Galway. It all happened on Tuesday morning at Claddagh Quay.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports of an unresponsive woman. They worked quickly to get her out of the water.

She was taken to University Hospital Galway, but unfortunately, she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

Now, a post-mortem will be done to help guide the Garda investigation into what happened.

A Garda spokesperson shared that they were alerted to the situation early Tuesday morning. It’s a tough time for everyone involved.

In other news, tributes are pouring in for a Galway man who recently died in Australia. John Furey, from Doughiska, was remembered fondly by friends and family.

He passed away on December 18, 2024, and his family is heartbroken. They’re bringing him back to Ireland for his funeral.

His requiem Mass will be held at the Good Shepherd Church in Doughiska, followed by burial at Castlegar Cemetery.

Friends have been sharing their memories of John, calling him a lovely guy with a cheeky grin. It’s clear he will be missed by many.
