A Weston-super-Mare woman received a four-year ban after neglecting her dog, Cookie, who suffered from a painful skin condition.
Weston-super-Mare: A woman named Kelly Godbeer has been banned from keeping animals for four years. This decision came after her dog, Cookie, was found in pain. Cookie had a serious skin condition and needed help.
Kelly, 40, was ordered to pay £400 in costs and fined £80. The RSPCA discovered Cookie, a one-year-old bulldog, with open sores and fur loss. She had not seen a vet and was treated with online products instead.
RSPCA Inspector Hayley Lawrence emphasized the importance of veterinary care for pets. She noted that pets rely on their owners for health and safety. Kelly admitted to breeding dogs but claimed she did not profit from it.
Fortunately, Cookie has fully recovered under RSPCA care. Sadly, Somerset has seen a rise in pet neglect cases. There were 951 reports of neglect last year, marking a 28% increase.
If you suspect animal neglect, you can report it to the RSPCA online. They are there to help animals in need.
