A windfarm vessel quickly aided a paddleboarder and canoeist in trouble off Conwy coast, ensuring their safe return to shore.
Conwy: A windfarm boat rushed to help a paddleboarder and a canoeist in trouble. They were struggling off Angel Bay on the Little Orme. The crew quickly responded after being alerted to their situation.
While the windfarm vessel stood by, the RNLI Llandudno crew was dispatched. They reached the scene in under three minutes on Saturday afternoon, February 1.
When the lifeboat arrived, they found the paddleboard had lost its keel blade. This made it hard to steer. The canoeist was fine and stayed close to help the paddleboarder.
The lifeboat crew decided to bring both individuals aboard. They towed the paddleboard and canoe back to shore safely. They arrived at Penrhyn Bay, where Llandudno Coastguard was waiting to assist.
This rescue was special for crew member Calum Darling. He joined the RNLI in October 2024 and had just completed his sea survival course. This was his first rescue mission.
Helm Robert Williams noted it was a memorable milestone for Calum. He praised the rescued pair for being well-prepared with buoyancy aids and a way to contact the coastguard.
Williams emphasized that RNLI volunteers are always ready to help those in trouble at sea. They are dedicated to ensuring safety on the water.
