A Wigan shop’s unique link to Ryan Reynolds highlights its growing fame
Wigan: You wouldn’t think a school uniform shop in Wigan would have ties to Hollywood, right? But that’s exactly what’s happening with Icon Embroidery.
This shop isn’t just about uniforms. They’ve been called in to help with The Turf pub in Wrexham, a favorite spot of Ryan Reynolds and his buddy Rob McElhenney, who bought Wrexham Football Club a few years back.
The Turf has gained a lot of attention thanks to the “Welcome to Wrexham” docuseries, which follows Ryan and Rob’s journey with the club. When it came time to spruce up the pub, Carlick Contract Furniture knew just who to call.
They needed some custom leather panels embroidered with initials for Ryan, Rob, and the club director. That’s where Icon Embroidery came in, thanks to their reputation for top-notch embroidery work.
Leonie Lewis, who runs the shop with her husband Chris, was thrilled to be part of this project. She said it felt amazing to go from Astley to Hollywood. Chris loves these challenging jobs, and this one was no exception.
Icon Embroidery started small, back in 2012, when they set up shop in their bathroom. They bought a second-hand embroidery machine and slowly built their business. Now, they’ve got a busy shop in Astley and even opened a second location in Atherton last year.
Over the years, they’ve built strong relationships with local schools and businesses. They offer a variety of embroidery and printing services, and they’ve even worked with big names like Kelloggs and ITV.
Leonie mentioned how special it was to work on furniture for Ryan Reynolds. It’s not every day you get to say you’ve worked with a Hollywood star!
