Wales A could make a comeback, showcasing emerging talent in rugby
Cardiff: So, it’s been ages since Wales A played, right? The last time was back in 2002 when David Moffett, the former Welsh Rugby Union CEO, decided to cut the team for budget reasons. It was a bummer for fans.
Now, they technically have an A side again since it was brought back in 2016, but it’s mainly to get dual-qualified players to join the U20s. Still, it’s been 23 years since they’ve actually played a match. Some folks at the WRU think reviving Wales A could really help Welsh rugby.
Of course, money is a big issue, and finding time in the schedule for games is tricky too. But other countries like England and Ireland have second teams, so it’s something the WRU is looking into.
But if they did get back on the field, who would be on the team? Let’s take a look at some of the players who could make the cut.
First up, Jacob Beetham. This 23-year-old is a full-back but can play multiple positions. He’s had some injury setbacks, but he’s got the size and skill to shine on the international stage.
Then there’s Ellis Mee, who’s been making waves since joining the Scarlets. At just 21, he’s already in the mix for the Six Nations squad. He’s got a knack for making smart plays under pressure.
