Swansea: Inmates in Welsh prisons are in for a treat this Christmas. They’ll be enjoying some festive meals on December 25. It’s not just turkey; there are some pretty fancy options too!

There are over 5,000 prisoners across six jails in Wales, including HMP Swansea, HMP Cardiff, and HMP Berwyn. All these facilities house male inmates since there’s no women’s prison in the country.

The Ministry of Justice and G4S, which runs Parc prison, shared the details of the Christmas menus. Each prison has its own unique offerings. Traditional turkey and Christmas pudding are on the list, but there are also alternatives like beef and suet bake and smoked haddock patties.

At HMP Swansea, breakfast kicks off with Weetabix and a hot cross bun. For the main meal, they’ll have roast turkey with all the trimmings or a salmon parcel. Dessert includes Christmas pudding or a spiced apple crumble.

Meanwhile, HMP Cardiff starts with a breakfast pack and croissant. Lunch features beef or turkey, with a festive vegan slice as an option. They’ll also have Christmas pudding for dessert.

At HMP Berwyn, breakfast includes cereal and a sausage bap. For lunch, they can choose from vegetable wellington or chicken with stuffing. Dessert is chocolate fudge cake, which sounds delicious!

Inmates at HMP Usk and Prescoed will enjoy a festive breakfast pack followed by a classic roast turkey lunch. They’ll also have a choice of desserts, including Christmas pudding.

Parc Prison didn’t provide details this year, but last Christmas, inmates had a hearty breakfast and a festive roast chicken or turkey for lunch. They ended the day with a variety of snacks.
