This situation puts hundreds of jobs at risk. Quiz, based in Glasgow, is struggling financially, which could lead to the permanent closure of its Livingston branch.
Quiz also has a store in New Look at Edinburgh’s Fort Kinnaird. The company started in 1993 and once had over 300 stores worldwide, mostly in the UK and Ireland.
In 2020, Quiz faced financial issues and had to close 82 UK branches. They later bought them back, but this resulted in 92 job losses.
Last year, the company warned it might run out of cash by early 2025 without new funding. They described their Christmas sales as disappointing and said their cash reserves were lower than expected.
Quiz blamed inflation and low consumer demand for their struggles. They even decided to delist from the London Stock Exchange to save money.
Chairman Peter Cowgill mentioned the need to cut costs significantly, which could lead to more store closures. He also noted risks to the company’s future.
Stores in Scotland at risk include locations in Aberdeen, Ayr, Dundee, and more. The Livingston store is among those threatened.
Quiz also has concession outlets in New Look across several locations, including Aberdeen and Glasgow.
