A West London golf course will close as player numbers decline and finances worsen
West London: Uxbridge Golf Course is shutting down for a bit. The council is worried about fewer players and money issues. It’s a tough spot for them.
The closure is set for Tuesday, January 14. Staff will move to Haste Hill, which is nearby. Attendance has dropped at both courses, and bad weather hasn’t helped either.
Even after raising fees and putting in a lot of money, both courses are still losing cash. They need taxpayer support just to keep going.
Councillor Eddie Lavery mentioned that while they’re proud to own these courses, it’s becoming hard to justify the costs. Not many people are using them, and it’s not sustainable.
Now, the council is looking for a golf operator who can manage the courses better. If they can’t find anyone, Haste Hill might also close temporarily.
“We want to provide good services without wasting money,” the councillor said. They’re hoping to find someone with the right skills to make the courses more appealing.
