Math Jones, a talented fly-half, aims to represent Wales while thriving in England’s rugby scene
Garnant: Math Jones is a young fly-half from a small village in Wales, and he’s got big dreams of going pro in rugby. He’s already making waves with offers from several clubs in England.
This area has produced some rugby legends, like Shane Williams and Jac Morgan. Math went to Ysgol Gyfun Maes y Gwendraeth and played junior rugby for Penybanc RFC. He’s got a solid background.
Recently, he turned down a five-year deal with the Scarlets. Instead, he chose to take a scholarship at Gordon’s School in Surrey, where he’s also part of the Harlequins academy. It was a tough choice, but he wanted to push himself.
Math had a trial at Gordon’s and was surprised when they offered him a spot. He thought, “Why not?” He’s now training with some of the best young players in England.
He’s already living like a pro, with great coaching and facilities. The school is smaller than others, which gives it a more personal feel. They treat school rugby like an academy, so he’s getting top-notch training.
His schedule is packed. He balances schoolwork with rugby training, gym sessions, and recovery. He plays in the Ace League and has already won a competition against Hartpury.
Math has also trained with Wales U18s and played against Scotland. He’s aiming to make the U19s camp soon and hopes to join the U20s squad. He’s determined to represent Wales, even while playing in England.
He’s focused on improving his game management, learning when to kick and when to run. Math compares himself to Fin Smith and feels more confident in this new environment.
His ultimate goal? To become a professional rugby player and wear the Welsh jersey. With his talent and drive, he’s definitely one to watch in the future.
