Exciting young talents from Wales are set to shine in rugby by 2025
Cardiff: Welsh rugby hasn’t had the best year, and things won’t change overnight. But there’s a silver lining! Fans can look forward to some fresh talent coming up from the Wales U18s and U20s teams.
With the four professional clubs in Wales—Cardiff, Dragons RFC, Ospreys, and Scarlets—struggling financially, they’ll need to rely on these promising youngsters. Rugby correspondent Steffan Thomas highlights some players who could really make a name for themselves by 2025.
First up is Archie Hughes, a 21-year-old scrum-half who’s been turning heads at Parc y Scarlets. He was set to play a lot this season but got sidelined with an ankle injury. If he stays fit, he could be the next big thing, especially with Gareth Davies nearing retirement.
Then there’s Louie Hennessey, a 20-year-old centre making waves at Bath. He’s got the size and skills to break through defenses and is known for his smart decision-making. Expect to see him in the senior Wales squad soon!
Steffan Emanuel and Tom Bowen are also names to watch. They recently returned to Cardiff from England and have already made their senior debuts. Emanuel’s passing game is impressive, while Bowen has shown he can score crucial tries.
Don’t forget about Morgan Morse, a 19-year-old backrower for the Ospreys. He’s already made a splash with a stunning try and is seen as one of the best prospects in Welsh rugby. If he stays healthy, he could earn his first cap in 2025.
Harri Ackerman, another 19-year-old, is on the comeback trail after a serious injury. He’s a powerful player who reads the game well and should be making his mark soon.
Huw Anderson, a 20-year-old full-back, is also on the radar after impressing during training with Wales. He’s got the skills to stand out, and after a great performance recently, he’s likely to get more playtime.
Lastly, keep an eye on Deian Gwynne and Caio James, two exciting 18-year-olds who’ve made their way to Gloucester. They’re both strong players and are expected to shine in the coming years.
So, while Welsh rugby has faced challenges, these young stars are ready to step up and make their mark!
