We visited Mr Chippy in Cwmbran, known as the best chippy, and here’s our tasty experience
Cwmbran: So, I recently checked out what everyone’s raving about—the best chippy in town, Mr Chippy. Chips are a big deal in Wales, and honestly, you can find a chippy in almost every corner.
Mr Chippy is the one that caught my eye, and I had to see if it lived up to the hype. Jamie, who works there, told me the staff are pretty confident it’s the best in Cwmbran.
I went for a big portion of chips, sprinkled with salt and vinegar. Let me tell you, I was not let down! I’ve had my fair share of chips, especially growing up by the coast in Scotland and living in Glasgow for a bit.
Mr Chippy definitely holds its own against some of the best I’ve tasted. It’s a favorite among locals, thanks to its spot in the town center, friendly faces, and speedy service.
Earlier this year, Mr Chippy had a bit of a scare when it closed unexpectedly. The locals were pretty shocked and disappointed when it shut down without any warning.
But the good news? It’s back open and serving up lunch and dinner again! Annmarie O’Connor, a regular, said it has the “best fish in town” with perfectly cooked chips.
There was a moment when the place was up for rent, but thankfully, it’s back in action. I can’t wait to swing by again next time I’m in Cwmbran!
