Walsall: A guy named Lee Mills got himself in a heap of trouble for dumping rubbish on a road in Staffordshire. Last June, he turned a quiet spot on Nether Lane into a total mess.

This bloke, who’s out of work, was supposed to get rid of waste from four different homes. But instead of doing the right thing, he just dumped everything, including some nasty asbestos and scrap metal.

Mills even pretended to be a licensed waste carrier and scrap dealer. But the environmental health officers caught on to his little scam. They traced the rubbish back to the homes and showed up at his place in Pelsall.

They took his van, which was packed with more junk when they found it. Lichfield District Council took him to court, and he admitted to fly-tipping and other fraud charges.

At Cannock Magistrates’ Court, he got a 12-month community order and has to do 200 hours of unpaid work. Plus, he’s on the hook for £1,500 in costs and a £114 fine. Oh, and he lost his van too.

After the sentencing, a council member, Cllr Alex Farrell, said they were pleased with the outcome. He hopes this sends a clear message to anyone thinking about fly-tipping in their area. The penalties can be pretty harsh, and they’re serious about cleaning up the district.
