Wales is bracing for heavy snowfall as weather warnings are issued for the weekend
Merthyr Tydfil: Snow is on its way to Wales, starting Saturday afternoon. The Met Office has issued two weather warnings covering most of the country.
There’s a yellow warning for snow and ice from noon Saturday until midnight Sunday. Then, an amber warning kicks in at 6 PM Saturday and lasts until noon Sunday. They’re not kidding around with this one!
The Met Office warns that travel delays are likely, and power cuts could happen. Some rural areas might even get cut off. So, it’s best to be prepared.
Looking at the forecast, snow is expected to hit Merthyr Tydfil around 2 PM, moving east towards Llandovery and Builth Wells by 3 PM. The darker the color on the map, the heavier the snow.
By 4:30 PM, much of south Wales will be seeing snow, stretching into mid Wales and even reaching Aberystwyth and parts of Pembrokeshire. The amber warning will be in full effect by then.
As the night rolls in, rain will start to sweep through south Wales, but snow will keep falling in mid and north Wales. By 10 AM Sunday, most of Wales will be drenched in rain, turning that lovely snow into slush. Watch your step!
Rain is expected to stick around for most of Sunday before clearing up later. There might be some snow on Monday in parts of west Wales, but overall, it should be dry. Saturday’s forecast starts off cold and dry, with some sunshine, but clouds will roll in by the afternoon.
As for Saturday night, snow will move north overnight, turning to rain by dawn, but watch out for icy spots! Sunday morning will see freezing rain in central and northern Wales, but it should warm up a bit in the south.
Stay safe and keep an eye on the weather updates!
