Ospreys lock James Fender was sent off for a dangerous act during a heated Welsh derby against Cardiff, sparking discussions among players.
Cardiff: So, there was this intense match between the Ospreys and Cardiff, right? Ospreys lock James Fender got a red card just before halftime for a dangerous move called a croc roll.
At that point, the Ospreys were down 5-3, and the referee, Ben Breakspear, was alerted by the TV match official about Fender’s risky play. He was trying to clear out Cardiff’s Dan Thomas but ended up putting too much weight on his leg, which could have caused a serious injury.
Breakspear didn’t hesitate and sent Fender off. Former player Ellis Jenkins, who was commentating, said it was a tough call but necessary. He mentioned that injuries from such moves are a real concern.
Another former player, Cuthbert, backed the decision, saying World Rugby is really cracking down on these dangerous plays this year. He pointed out that there have been too many injuries without consequences before.
Jenkins also noted how lucky Thomas was to avoid a serious injury. If his foot had gotten stuck, things could have turned out much worse. It was a close call for sure!
