Cardigan: Imagine heading off to Barcelona for a stag do and coming back to find your home featured on TV! That’s exactly what happened to Gareth, 42, who was soaking up the sun with his mates while his wife Natasha took a spontaneous leap of faith.

While Gareth was away, Natasha decided to enter their home, Bryn Llewyllen, into the BBC Cymru Wales show, Wales’ Home of the Year 2024. And guess what? They won! But first, she had to break the news to Gareth when he returned.

At first, he was shocked and a bit grumpy, but once he got into it, he had a blast. They both ended up loving the experience and were over the moon about the win. Natasha said she just acted on a whim when she saw the last chance to enter online.

When they found out they won, they couldn’t believe it. They thought another house would take the prize. Natasha said it was tough keeping it a secret from friends who were curious about the outcome.

The couple put a lot of love into their home, which has been in Gareth’s family for years. They’ve made it their own, updating it while keeping some of its charm. They scored a perfect 30 points from the judges, which is no small feat!

Gareth and Natasha worked hard to transform the house, which had lost its original features in the 80s. They stripped it down and started fresh, adding modern touches while respecting its history.

Natasha, who loves mid-century design, and Gareth, who had the architectural vision, teamed up to create a cozy, stylish space. They kept things neutral but added pops of color to reflect their personalities.

One of the judges loved the cozy reading nook they created in the kitchen diner. It’s Gareth’s favorite spot to chill with the cats. Natasha’s favorite place is the dining table, where they can finally enjoy meals together after years of eating on their laps.

They even made a sliding orange door from leftover materials, which turned out to be a hit. It’s a simple yet effective way to separate spaces when they want some privacy.

Visitors often say the home reflects Gareth and Natasha perfectly, and their family loves it too. They were a bit nervous about how their relatives would feel, but everyone has been super positive.
