I checked out the acclaimed Haystack Cafe in Swansea to see if it lives up to the hype and was pleasantly surprised by the experience
Swansea: It was a chilly Tuesday morning in December, perfect for a little break. We decided to take a day off to enjoy some festive fun before the holiday rush.
We didn’t plan too much, thinking it would be a quiet morning. But we were heading to a cafe that everyone raves about, so we were curious to see what the fuss was all about.
When we arrived in Brynhyfryd, it didn’t look like much at first. Just a regular street with a few shops. But then we found Haystack Cafe, tucked away with a car park on one side and a takeaway on the other.
As soon as we stepped inside, we felt the warmth and charm of the place. It’s got a unique vibe that makes it stand out from the usual cafes.
A friendly staff member greeted us but then hit us with the news that there were no tables available. Instead of making us wait, they took our number and promised to message us when a spot opened up.
We took a little stroll around the block, wondering how long we’d be waiting. But it turned out to be just a few minutes before we were back inside, led upstairs to our table.
The upstairs area used to be a bakery, and you can see why they needed the extra space. It’s filled with quirky decor, from colorful lampshades to shelves of books and even a chair nailed to the ceiling.
It’s definitely a place that’s Instagram-ready, which probably adds to its popularity. But the real test is the food, and thankfully, it didn’t disappoint!
The menu had a great variety, especially for vegetarians like us. We went for the Gardeners Breakfast, which was packed with delicious options like veggie sausage, halloumi, and house hashbrowns.
The food arrived quickly and was fresh and tasty, just what you want from a good breakfast. I only wish I had tried one of their seasonal hot chocolates, but that just gives me a reason to return!
After hearing so much about this place, we finally understand why it’s so loved. Beyond the hype and the cool decor, Haystack Cafe serves fantastic food in a cozy atmosphere. Brynhyfryd may seem ordinary, but this cafe is a real gem.
