After a four-year struggle, residents celebrate as UPS agrees to trim trees blocking sunlight
Derby: Residents in a quiet cul-de-sac are finally getting some relief. After a long four-year battle, they’ve convinced UPS to trim the trees that have been blocking their sunlight. Madeline Hackett, a longtime resident, had called the trees ‘depressing’ and shared how they’ve been living in the shadows.
These trees were planted about 30 years ago to help with noise from the UPS warehouse. But over the years, they grew wild and started to block out the sun. Madeline, who’s lived on Ellesmere Avenue for over 40 years, remembers when there were just fences and walls. She knew the trees would be a problem from the start.
Thanks to Derbyshire Live, her concerns were heard. They reached out to UPS, asking if they had plans to trim the trees. Just a couple of months later, the residents received a letter from UPS confirming that they would hire a contractor to take care of the trees.
Madeline was overjoyed when she got the news. She felt relieved that the suffering was coming to an end. She expressed her gratitude to Derbyshire Live for shining a light on their situation, saying it made a huge difference for her and her neighbors.
Now, with the trimming scheduled for January 6, the residents can look forward to enjoying the winter sun again. Madeline is even planning to fix her garden shed, which had been damaged by falling branches. It’s a new beginning for her and her neighbors, who can finally enjoy their gardens as they used to.
UPS has assured the community that they’re committed to being good neighbors. They’re taking all necessary precautions during the trimming process. Local councillor Alan Graves also praised UPS for their cooperation, saying it’s great to see responsible actions that benefit the community.
