Cynon Valley: The recycling facility and landfill site got a big thumbs up. They can keep operating for 25 more years. The Rhondda Cynon Taf planning committee approved this on January 30.

This decision allows the Bryn Pica site to continue past its original end date of March 31, 2025. The committee looked at whether anything had changed since the last applications in 2003 and 2005.

They found that while local and national policies have changed, it won’t affect this proposal. The Bryn Pica facility is licensed to recycle and manage waste effectively.

The applicant emphasized that this site is crucial for waste management. Extending its operation supports Welsh Government’s recycling goals. The recycling facility and landfill work together, so both applications were considered at once.

While the proposal is for 25 more years, it doesn’t mean the facility will operate that long. The operator will decide based on commercial needs. This timeframe allows for changes in waste management without needing constant approvals.

No changes to the current operations were proposed. The landfill will continue to accept waste at the same rates, and the methods used will stay the same.

Councillor Sharon Rees, who chairs the committee, noted that the facility has been a good neighbor to Llwydcoed, with no issues reported.
