Motorists are urged to exit their vehicles safely if they break down on the M6
Stafford: Drivers are getting a serious heads-up from Staffordshire Police. If you break down on the M6, don’t just sit there. Get out of your car!
This warning comes after a nasty crash involving a car and a van left a real mess on the southbound side of the M6 near Stafford. Thankfully, the people in the car managed to escape before the van hit it.
The new road crime team shared a shocking photo of the wreck to stress how important it is to exit your vehicle if you find yourself in a jam. They said it could save your life.
Sergeant Chris Sweetmore from the collision investigation unit emphasized that not knowing what to do during a breakdown can lead to more accidents. He advised drivers to trust their instincts and pull over safely if something feels off.
Staffordshire Police laid out some key tips: If you break down on a busy road, turn on your hazard lights and call 999 right away. If it’s safe, exit through the passenger door and get behind a safety barrier. And whatever you do, don’t try to fix anything yourself.
Stay safe out there, folks!
