A jury hears how a violent family brawl led to a fatal stabbing
Dudley: A court heard about a tragic incident involving a family fight. An uncle allegedly threatened his nephew just before being stabbed. The uncle, Mohammed Khan, reportedly said, “you’re going to die today.” This led to a violent brawl between family members.
Razwan Khan, the father of the nephew Annib, testified in court. He described how he tried to protect Annib from the attacks. He said Mohammed and his son Zayn were hitting Annib with punches and a metal bar. It was a chaotic scene in their home.
After the fight, Razwan saw Mohammed collapsed outside. Prosecutors claim Annib stabbed his uncle in the neck with a kitchen knife. Annib, 29, denies the murder charge, claiming he acted in self-defense during the altercation.
Razwan recalled the day of the incident. Annib had left for a mosque but returned looking frantic. When Razwan opened the door, he saw Mohammed and Zayn rushing in. They didn’t say anything and went straight to the kitchen.
Inside, Razwan witnessed the attack on Annib. He described how Mohammed used a metal bar to hit Annib while Zayn joined in the beating. Razwan tried to shield his son but ended up with bruises on his arms.
During the fight, Mohammed shouted threats, saying he would kill Annib. Razwan heard them say, “we are going to kill you.” The situation escalated quickly, and Annib eventually picked up something from the kitchen.
As the fight continued, Razwan focused on Zayn, trying to stop him. He pushed Zayn towards the door, and in the chaos, he saw Mohammed lying on the ground outside. Razwan rushed to check on his brother, who seemed okay.
When Razwan returned inside, he found Annib covered in blood. He feared his son was dead. Prosecutors allege Annib used a knife from the kitchen to stab Mohammed. There had been ongoing issues between them for years.
Annib claimed he acted in self-defense, not realizing the knife had connected. Zayn also stated he was defending himself. The trial is still ongoing as the jury hears more evidence.
