Plans for a fountain and sculpture in Port Talbot are in limbo after a mischievous incident left it unused for years
Port Talbot: So, there’s this fountain and sculpture outside the civic offices that’s been a bit of a hot topic lately. The council is chatting about what to do with it during some big renovation plans for the Princess Royal Theatre.
They’ve got a £15 million project lined up to spruce up the area between the civic offices and the shopping center. It’s all about making the town look better and more inviting.
Now, this fountain was supposed to be a cool water feature when it opened back in 1989, but it hasn’t worked as one for ages. Apparently, some kids thought it would be funny to fill it with washing up liquid, and let’s just say, it turned into a foamy mess!
A local councillor, Dennis Keogh, brought up the fountain’s fate during the meeting. He wondered if they’d consider moving the sculpture somewhere else, like Margam Park or the seafront. It’s a pretty neat piece, designed to look like an astrolabe, and it was made from Welsh steel.
The council folks said they’d take his thoughts to the planning team. If it’s been around for so long and people care about it, they might just find a new spot for it, or even keep it in the new plans. Fingers crossed something good comes out of this!
