A 33-year-old man was sentenced for robbing his grandmother to pay off debts
Uddingston: A man was jailed for robbing his grandmother. Christopher Roberts, 33, broke into her home for cash. He claimed he needed money for debts to dangerous people.
This incident happened on November 2 last year. Roberts went to his gran’s house in Hozier Crescent around 9 PM. His 76-year-old grandmother and 79-year-old grandfather were home.
Roberts had his benefits paid into his grandmother’s bank account. He knocked on her window, asking for money. She opened the door but blocked it with her zimmer frame. She told him to leave.
Instead, he pushed his way inside and grabbed her bag. She tried to get it back, but he took out her purse, stealing £30 and a bank card. His grandmother called for help.
Roberts’ lawyer said he was sorry for his actions. Despite this crime, his grandmother still cares for him. Roberts has struggled with drugs since he was 15 and has a history of offenses.
The sheriff noted how low Roberts had sunk. He read a letter from Roberts, who has been in custody since his arrest. The sheriff decided on an eight-month jail sentence, backdated to November 3.
