Tyrone Husky Rescue’s planning application faces backlash over noise and safety issues raised by local residents and officials
Ballygawley: There’s been quite a stir over a new husky re-homing facility. Folks are worried about the noise and safety it might bring.
The Tyrone Husky Rescue group has put in a planning application, and it’s got people talking. A site meeting is on the way to discuss it further.
This application is for changing a stable block into a place for re-homing huskies. It’s located near 40 Ballynahaye Road, and it’s been a hot topic at the local council meetings.
During a recent inspection, they found at least 14 dogs on the property. Some neighbors have raised concerns, sending in letters of objection.
The rescue group says they won’t have more than 20 dogs at once, and they’ve got some support from others in the community too.
But there’s been a bit of drama. Back in November, a volunteer got bitten by a dog, and it took a lot of emergency services to handle the situation.
The planning report mentions that while there will be noise from barking, the Environmental Health Department thinks it can work if they follow certain rules, like limiting the number of dogs and when they can be outside.
Some locals are really worried. One person said the huskies’ howling has stressed out their horses, causing injuries. They can’t even move their animals around safely anymore.
Another resident pointed out that there are livestock nearby, and the barking has made it tough for farmers to manage their animals.
At a recent meeting, one objector shared that there have been incidents where dogs startled horses and even caused injuries to sheep. It’s clear that people are anxious about what could happen if things don’t change.
With all these concerns, it’s going to be interesting to see how the council handles this planning application. The community is definitely keeping a close eye on it.
