Tragic accidents on Christmas Day in Ireland claim the lives of two men
Clarebane: It was a heartbreaking Christmas Day in Ireland. An elderly man in his late 80s lost his life in a car crash on the N55 after midnight. The accident involved two vehicles and left everyone in shock.
Emergency services rushed to help, but sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to Cavan General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The four people in the other car were injured but thankfully, their injuries aren’t life-threatening. The road was closed for a while as investigators looked into what happened.
In another tragic incident, a man in his 30s died in a single-vehicle crash on Downpatrick Road in Ballynahunch, County Down, later that night.
Inspector Cherith Adair from the Collision Investigation Unit shared that police got a call around 4:45 PM about the crash. Officers and emergency services were on the scene quickly.
Unfortunately, the driver didn’t survive. The road was closed for a bit but has since reopened. Investigators are asking anyone who saw the grey Volkswagen Polo or has dashcam footage to come forward.
