Gwent Police took action against two cars seen driving recklessly in snowy conditions, highlighting the dangers of such behavior.
Newport: So, two cars got seized after they were spotted driving like maniacs in the snow. It all went down in Spytty, where the roads were pretty slick.
The Gwent Police Operations and Support team jumped into action and took those cars off the road. They were drifting around like it was a race track, which is just not cool, especially with the amber weather warning for snow and ice in South Wales.
Under the Police Reform Act, officers have the right to deal with this kind of reckless driving. They can stop the car, seize it, and even go into places where they think the car might be hiding.
Basically, if they think a car is being driven in a way that could upset people or cause trouble, they can step in. This includes driving carelessly or just being a nuisance on the road.
If a driver gets caught, they can receive a Section 59 warning, which sticks around for a year. If they mess up again during that time, the car gets taken away for good.
And if the driver doesn’t pick up their car after paying the fees, it could end up getting crushed. A spokesperson for Gwent Police made it clear: they won’t put up with dangerous or careless driving in the area.
