Aberdeenshire: It’s a sad day for the community as Carl Nelson, a well-respected former councillor, has passed away at the age of 88. People are sharing heartfelt tributes, calling him a “true gentleman” and an “exemplary man.”

Carl was first elected back in 1992 to the Kincardine and Deeside District Council, representing the Scottish Conservatives. He even received an MBE from Queen Elizabeth in 1994 for his community service, which is quite an honor!

In 1996, he became a councillor for North Kincardine on the newly formed Aberdeenshire Council. He served the area for over 20 years before retiring in 2017. That’s a long time to dedicate to public service!

During his time, he held several important roles, including chair of the Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee and the board of Grampian Fire and Rescue. He really made a difference in the community.

His children, Hilary and Graham, shared a touching tribute, saying their dad was a “real people person” who loved helping others. It’s clear he was dedicated to his role as a councillor.

John Duncan MBE, chairman of the Scottish Conservative Aberdeenshire Association, also spoke highly of Carl, saying he will be remembered for his professionalism and good humor. It sounds like he was a joy to work with!

Councillor Wendy Agnew, who took over Carl’s role in 2017, mentioned how conscientious he was in addressing the concerns of his constituents. It’s nice to hear how much respect he earned from everyone around him.

Former colleague Councillor George Carr added that Carl’s MBE was a testament to his achievements and the respect he garnered from both constituents and fellow council members. It’s clear he left a lasting legacy.

Everyone who knew Carl will surely miss him. His contributions to the community and the friendships he built will be remembered fondly.
