Merseyside faces significant travel disruptions with train and bus cancellations due to severe weather conditions affecting the region
Merseyside: This morning, the region is in a bit of a pickle with travel chaos everywhere. Trains are cancelled, and buses are nowhere to be seen. It’s all because of a yellow weather warning for snow and ice that kicked in at midnight.
The M53 and M56 are both feeling the heat too. The M53 southbound is shut down, and there are long delays because of emergency repairs. Traffic is backed up all the way to Bebington. On the M56, an earlier crash has caused major hold-ups, with congestion stretching to Helsby.
In Runcorn, the A533 Southern Expressway is closed in both directions due to four lorries stuck on the road. Plus, the Mersey Gateway is also affected, with closures due to the nasty weather.
As for the trains, Merseyrail is experiencing major disruptions. A points failure at Hunts Cross is causing delays, and some services are being terminated early. Flooding at Fazakerley and Hooton is adding to the mess, with more delays expected throughout the day.
