Elen Wyn was stunned to discover Charlotte Berman’s true English roots
Cardiff: So, Elen Wyn, a contestant on Traitors, was totally blindsided when she found out that Charlotte Berman, who she thought was Welsh, is actually from London. Can you believe it?
Charlotte had been pretending to be Welsh, claiming that people trust the accent more. She even told the BBC it’s one of the most trustworthy accents out there. But Elen, who’s from North Wales, had no clue about Charlotte’s little secret.
When they first met, Elen was thrilled to connect with another Welsh contestant. She said she was excited to find out Charlotte was Welsh too. But after Elen got eliminated, the truth came out, and she was shocked.
Elen mentioned that the accents from North and South Wales are pretty different, which made it tough for her to catch on to Charlotte’s act. Plus, Abergavenny, where Charlotte claimed to be from, isn’t known for strong accents, so that helped Charlotte keep up the ruse.
Charlotte even said she moved to London to explain any accent slip-ups. Outside the show, Elen agreed that the Welsh accent is trustworthy, but in the context of the game, it didn’t help since there were Welsh traitors in previous seasons.
Now, with Elen out, she’s the lowest-ranked of the three Welsh contestants. Fans are probably going to have to wait for the next season to see a real Welsh contestant again, while Charlotte’s little charade continues.
