A Scottish toddler, known for his bravery, has sadly died while waiting for a life-saving organ transplant
Kirkintilloch: It’s heartbreaking to hear about little Zachary Bradford, a brave three-year-old who passed away while waiting for an organ transplant. His family shared the news, and it’s just so sad.
Zachary’s mum, Jade, had made a heartfelt plea for organ donations just a day before his passing. He was waiting for a small bowel and liver transplant and had spent most of his life in the hospital. People called him a “superhero” for how he touched so many lives.
His gran, Nicola, shared how Zachary was always the happiest boy, even while battling sepsis. They had been raising awareness about the need for organ donations, but sadly, his fragile health couldn’t withstand the infection.
Nicola expressed the deep pain the family feels, saying it’s hard to put into words. Zachary had a way of charming everyone around him, always managing to get the nurses and doctors to smile.
In September, doctors warned his family that he had only weeks to live without a double transplant. But Zachary kept surprising everyone, celebrating his third birthday and even his parents’ wedding day.
He was born prematurely with a condition that required major surgeries, and despite all the challenges, he fought hard. Unfortunately, after receiving a liver transplant earlier this year, he contracted sepsis, which damaged the new organ.
Jade shared her heartbreak on social media, saying she feels utterly broken without her son. She emphasized how much joy he brought into their lives and how he taught them to keep smiling through the pain.
A memorial service is being planned for Zachary next week, and there’s a fundraiser set up to help give him a proper send-off.
