Trafford is gearing up for significant changes, including a new ice rink and luxury cinema, as part of a transformative plan for 2025.
Trafford: Big changes are on the horizon for Trafford. There are exciting plans for housing and business developments coming up in the next year.
This follows the approval of Greater Manchester’s Places for Everyone scheme, which outlines the planning strategy for the next 15 years.
So, what can we expect in 2025? Let’s dive in!
First up, the TraffordCity Ice Arena. This new ice rink is set to be one of the largest in the country. It’ll also double as a multi-use event space, which sounds pretty cool.
It’s going to be built next to Chill Factore and iFLY, right on the old Soccer Dome site. Developers are promising more details soon, so stay tuned!
And that’s not all. There will be plenty of food and drink options, including a family dining restaurant and a high-end sports bar. Yum!
Meanwhile, work is already underway on Therme Manchester, which will be the UK’s first city-based spa and water park resort, opening in 2027.
In Partington, nearly 100 affordable homes are being built as part of the Millbank Lock development. This is part of Trafford council’s effort to uplift the community.
These homes will start taking shape in 2025, with completion expected in 2026. The goal is to help people out of poverty and tackle climate issues.
Next, we have Trafford Wharfside. Plans to regenerate this area next to the Manchester Ship Canal were approved recently. They’re looking at building 5,000 new homes and connecting it to Manchester city centre.
There’s also a project for 159 homes between the Bridgewater Canal and the Manchester Ship Canal, which just got the green light.
Peel Waters is committed to making 20% of these homes affordable and contributing to local green spaces and schools.
Victoria Warehouse is also getting an upgrade with 200 new rooms and a big events space, plus a new car park to support the area.
In June, another residential development at Trafford Waters was approved, bringing 208 high-quality homes to the area.
In Altrincham, the historic Bridgeworks warehouse is being transformed into 32 apartments, which is a great way to preserve the building.
Sale is getting a new luxury cinema, The Northern Light Cinema, which will be the first new cinema in town in nearly 40 years. Exciting times for movie lovers!
In Urmston, the Art Deco-style Curzon Cinema is being converted into a community space, which sounds like a fantastic idea.
There are also plans for an Eruv in Hale Barns, allowing the orthodox community to move freely on the sabbath.
Lastly, Stretford town centre is undergoing a redevelopment, with plans to revitalize King Street and add 53 family homes on the site of the old Royal Mail sorting office.
