North Tyneside: So, there’s been some chatter about tree stumps just hanging around on the streets for way too long. Liam Bones, the Tory opposition leader, brought it up at a council meeting. He’s not happy about it at all.

He pointed out that some stumps are left for ages, and by the time they get around to removing them, they’re practically sprouting new branches. It’s a bit of a mess, really. In his ward, he’s seen trees taken out because of ash dieback, but the stumps? They’re still there months later.

Kim Pye, who’s in charge of the environment at the council, said they’ve had a lot of stumps to deal with, especially after storm Arwen hit back in 2021. Some stumps are even left to help wildlife, but it sounds like they’re trying to get the removals done as quickly as they can.

Last year, a guy from Monkseaton complained that his car got damaged by a stump. The council said they knew about it and were on it. It’s a bit of a hassle for everyone involved, but they’re working on it.
