A senior Garda has been suspended following a GSOC recommendation for criminal charges related to an incident at a Dublin pub
Dublin: So, there’s been quite a stir in Dublin lately. A top Garda got suspended after some serious allegations came to light. Apparently, this all started when GSOC, the policing watchdog, suggested he should face criminal charges over an incident at a pub.
This senior officer was notified of his suspension right on Christmas Eve. Can you believe that? It’s a pretty big deal. The Garda Commissioner, Drew Harris, made the call after GSOC sent a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions about what went down back in August.
Now, the officer is denying any wrongdoing. But the allegations are pretty serious. He’s accused of racially abusing a bouncer and knocking a phone out of a female manager’s hand. He’s saying that’s not true at all.
It’s been a long 14 months of investigation for him, and he wasn’t even suspended until now. But once GSOC recommended charges, things changed quickly. Sources say the DPP will likely decide on the charges soon, and they’re expected to be on the lighter side, related to public order.
The whole incident kicked off when the officer and some friends were asked to leave the pub over a minor issue. They left, but he wanted to talk to the manager. When that didn’t happen, things escalated with a bouncer getting involved. That’s when the alleged racial comment came up, which he firmly denies.
Then, a female manager stepped in, and that’s when the phone incident happened. Both sides called the Gardaí, but no one got arrested. It’s a messy situation, and everyone’s waiting to see what happens next.
