Two men face murder charges after a fatal attack outside a Travelodge in Swansea
Swansea: A tragic incident unfolded outside a Travelodge hotel, where two men from Somerset are accused of murdering Andrew Main. Joseph Dix, 26, and Macauley Ruddock, 27, allegedly attacked Main, 33, last year.
The night started with a group meeting at a bar on July 16. Things escalated when a fight broke out at the hotel early the next morning. Main was taken to the hospital but sadly passed away almost a month later.
During the trial, the prosecution described Dix and Ruddock as the aggressors. They reportedly took issue with Main and his friend, Michael Bell, chatting with a woman at the hotel.
A fight ensued, and while Bell managed to escape, Main was allegedly knocked out by a punch from Dix. Both Dix and Ruddock then continued to hit Main while he was on the ground. He was rushed to the hospital but couldn’t be saved.
The court heard how the group had been drinking together before the altercation. They all met at the Coyote Ugly bar, where Main encountered Dix and Ruddock for the first time.
After leaving the bar, Dix and Ruddock returned to the hotel, where tensions flared. Dix confronted Main and Bell, leading to a heated argument that spilled out onto the street.
Witnesses described how Main tried to flee but was chased down. Dix then allegedly punched him from behind, causing Main to fall. What happened next was witnessed by several people, including hotel staff, who reported seeing a brutal attack on Main while he lay unconscious.
Footage from nearby cameras showed Main motionless on the ground while Dix and Ruddock appeared to be joking about the incident. It was a shocking scene.
In police interviews, both men claimed they acted in self-defense. Dix insisted he was just trying to stop the fight, while Ruddock remained silent during questioning.
Sadly, Main suffered severe brain injuries and multiple facial fractures. He was moved to a hospital closer to his family but ultimately passed away on August 14.
