A man was jailed after headbutting a detention officer during his arrest in Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough: So, there was this guy, Jack Nawton, who got himself into a bit of trouble. His mum called the cops because he was acting all wild, saying he wanted to jump off a roof. Turns out, he had a nasty bruise on his eye and claimed he’d been beaten up by some guys.
When the police took him in, he was a bit out of it. They tried to wake him up for questioning, but he seemed really confused. They decided he needed to go to the hospital, but while they were putting him in the police van, he headbutted one of the officers. Ouch!
The officer fell down, feeling pretty rough with a nosebleed and mild concussion. Nawton later admitted to assaulting the officer. He’s had a history of trouble, including battery and robbery, and had just gotten out of a two-year sentence for attempted robbery last year.
In court, his lawyer said the body cam footage showed Nawton was really agitated and complaining about the handcuffs. He even said, “I didn’t mean it!” while apologizing. His mum was there, worried about his mental health issues like depression and anxiety.
The judge, Timothy Stead, told Nawton he wasn’t a bad person but just needed to get a grip on his self-control, especially when drinking. Nawton started shouting and swearing as he was sentenced to ten months in jail. Quite the scene, huh?
