Coventry: It’s pretty alarming to hear that a whopping 75% of car thefts in Coventry and the West Midlands are going unsolved. That’s a lot of folks left without any justice!

Recent research from the Liberal Democrats shows that in just three months last year, nearly 25,000 car thefts were unresolved across England. Can you believe that? Almost four out of five thefts just slip through the cracks!

In the West Midlands, only about 2.4% of police investigations actually led to someone being charged. And in Warwickshire, out of 280 reported thefts, only seven people faced charges. It’s a bit disheartening, to say the least.

London is even worse, with the Metropolitan Police solving only 10% of car thefts. South Yorkshire isn’t far behind, with 85% unsolved. It seems like a lot of areas are struggling with this issue.

West Midlands is sitting at just over 75% unsolved cases, while Warwickshire is around 77%. The Liberal Democrats are pushing for Labour to bring back community policing to help tackle this mess.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has promised to add 13,000 more officers and community support officers in England and Wales. They’re aiming for a dedicated officer in every neighborhood to help fight crime.

Liberal Democrat MP Lisa Smart expressed her frustration, saying that countless victims are left without the justice they deserve. She emphasized that every crime victim should feel safe and supported by the police.

Smart also pointed out that after significant cuts to community policing, the reality is far from that. She’s urging Labour to step up, invest in local policing, and ensure communities feel secure.
