Three and Vodafone users are urged to stay vigilant after reports of identity theft affecting customers
London: So, there’s been a pretty wild situation with some mobile customers. Apparently, a few folks have had their identities stolen, and it’s causing a real mess. One Vodafone customer found himself in hot water, accused of owing money to Three, which is a rival network.
This customer reached out to the Guardian, sharing his story. He said a fraudulent phone contract was taken out in his husband’s name, and now they’re facing court action. Can you believe it? He got a letter from a law firm saying he owed money for a Three contract, but he’s been with Vodafone since 2001!
At first, he thought it was just a scam when the letters started rolling in. But when the legal letter showed up, it hit him hard—he was a victim of identity theft. It’s just so frustrating!
He tried to get some answers from the law firm about the bills and where the phone was sent, but they said they couldn’t provide that info. He also reached out to Three’s customer service and even Action Fraud. But guess what? Three hasn’t responded at all, and now he’s facing court.
He had a chat with the court service, and they told him that since Three hasn’t replied, the case is still going on. When the newspaper contacted Three, they said they were sorry for the poor customer service and claimed they logged the account as fraudulent. They even said they’d cancel payment requests and fix the credit file.
But the customer is still furious. He feels trapped in this nightmare, being chased for a debt he doesn’t owe, and they won’t give him any info about who actually took out the contract. It’s just a mess all around!
