The Telegraph put together a list of the best places to live in the UK, and surprise, surprise, many are in the Home Counties. Harpenden is right up there.
It’s nestled between Luton and St Albans, just 25 miles from London. One local mentioned that families flock here because there’s “every club or class imaginable.” Sounds like a great community!
Did you know that about 60% of the folks in Harpenden have a level four qualification? That’s like having a bachelor’s degree. Pretty impressive, right?
Estate agent Kris Smith from Savills pointed out the town’s twice-weekly street market and a fantastic selection of restaurants and wine bars. It’s got a lot going for it!
Sally Noakes from Strutt & Parker added that it’s not just about the amenities. The town has great train links and is conveniently located near the M1 and A1, making trips to London and the Midlands a breeze.
According to the last Census in 2021, Harpenden had a population of 30,581. Most people here are between 16 and 64 years old, with a good mix of younger and older residents.
Back in 2011, there were about 29,448 people living in Harpenden, so it’s growing steadily. Rightmove reports that house prices have an average of £943,059 over the past year.
Most homes sold were detached, averaging around £1,396,792. Semi-detached homes went for about £855,310, while flats were around £408,890. It’s a hot market!
The Telegraph also noted that the average home price is about £913,000. It’s clear why Harpenden is so desirable!
