A charming Surrey village boasts a restaurant so sought-after, booking is a challenge akin to snagging Oasis concert tickets
Farnham: If you’re on the hunt for a new spot in the Surrey countryside, I’ve got a gem for you. There’s this restaurant that’s so popular, folks joke that getting a reservation is like trying to score tickets to see Oasis. You know, when they announced their reunion and everyone went nuts? Yeah, it’s that level of demand.
Just outside Farnham, you’ll find Wrecclesham, a lovely little village that used to be a pottery hub back in the Victorian days. It’s got charming houses and loads of greenery, making it a perfect getaway.
If you enjoy a good walk, there’s a fantastic two-hour circular route around Wrecclesham and Rowledge. It’s about five kilometers long and starts at a quaint church.
St James’ Church, built in 1870, has a stunning Gothic style with beautiful stained glass windows. Inside, you’ll find some old altar rails from 1690, which is pretty cool.
The walk takes you along the Bourne stream, up Pottery Lane, and past the Bear and Ragged Staff pub. People rave about this pub for its cozy vibe, with low ceilings and wooden beams.
And guess what? It’s dog-friendly! So, if you’re bringing your furry friend, they’re more than welcome. One visitor said it’s a great spot for a drink with a nice selection of bar snacks.
As you continue your stroll, you’ll pass some allotments and the old Willey Mill, which used to be powered by water. You’ll also see the Oval cricket pitch and head towards the Recreation Ground.
By now, you’re close to the church again, and after all that walking, you’ll want to check out Maison for some delicious food and friendly service.
