A recent report highlights the Kent town where dangerous driving is most common, raising concerns for local motorists and residents alike
Sevenoaks: A new report has come out showing that Sevenoaks in Kent is the place where you’re most likely to run into a dangerous driver. It’s a bit alarming, right? The Home Office shared some stats, and they found that there were 240 reports of dangerous driving in Kent over the past year. That includes some serious incidents, too.
Interestingly, while the total number of dangerous driving cases has fluctuated over the years, the number of serious injuries or deaths has actually gone down a bit. But still, it’s clear that some areas are riskier than others when it comes to dodgy driving.
Medway has seen the highest number of dangerous driving offences overall, but when you look at the population, Sevenoaks tops the list. For every 100,000 people who can drive, there were 61 offences. That’s one dangerous driving incident for every 2,276 people. Pretty wild, huh?
Thanet isn’t far behind, with a rate of 60 offences per 100,000. If you’re curious about how your area stacks up, there’s an interactive map you can check out.
So, what exactly counts as dangerous driving? It’s when a driver’s behavior is way below what’s expected. Think speeding, aggressive driving, or ignoring traffic signals. It can also include driving under the influence or when you’re just not fit to drive.
The consequences can be serious, too. Fines, disqualifications, or even jail time are on the table. For the worst cases, like causing death by dangerous driving, you could be looking at up to 14 years in prison. Yikes!
Interestingly, Bradford has the highest rate of dangerous driving in England and Wales, with a staggering 247 offences per 100,000 people. It’s a real eye-opener to see how these stats vary across the country.
Most of the areas with the worst driving records are in the North, particularly West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester. So, it’s definitely something to keep an eye on if you’re out on the roads.
