John Lennon expressed deep regret over writing the song ‘It’s Only Love,’ calling it one of his least favorite works
London: So, you know how The Beatles are legends, right? Well, even legends have their regrets. John Lennon once said he wished he’d never written a song called ‘It’s Only Love.’
Can you believe that? This track was part of the 1965 album ‘Help!’ and John was super embarrassed about it. He even told Hit Parader Magazine that he thought the lyrics were terrible.
He said, “Everything rhymed. Disgusting lyrics.” Ouch! He really didn’t hold back. It’s wild to think that a song from such a famous band could be seen as a low point.
Paul McCartney wasn’t a fan either. He mentioned that sometimes they just went with the flow, even if the lyrics were a bit bland. He said, “It’s only a rock ‘n’ roll song. I mean, this is not literature.”
Despite their feelings about ‘It’s Only Love,’ the album ‘Help!’ was a huge hit. It topped charts everywhere and marked a shift in their sound.
Neil McCormick from The Daily Telegraph even said that ‘Help!’ shows a band evolving, moving from the pop excitement of Beatlemania to something more mature. Pretty cool, right?
