Castleford: A teenager lost his life after a car drove into a sewage treatment pit in West Yorkshire. It’s such a heartbreaking situation.

The car, a Volkswagen Golf, was found mostly submerged in the water at Wheldale Sewage Works. Police got the call about the incident early in the morning.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene and discovered the vehicle in the treatment facility. They managed to rescue a man and a woman, both 21, who were taken to the hospital.

Sadly, an 18-year-old from Wakefield was found nearby and pronounced dead at the scene. It’s just so tragic.

For a while, Wheldon Road was closed off, but it’s open again now. The Major Collision Enquiry Team is looking into what happened.

They’re asking anyone who saw the car before the accident to reach out. If you have any video that could help, they want to hear from you.

You can contact them at 101 or through the live chat on the West Yorkshire Police website. Just reference log number 277 from January 12.
