Blackpool council denies taxi licence to applicant after serious convictions come to light
Blackpool: So, there was this taxi licence application that got turned down by the council. They found out the applicant had some serious past convictions for violence and dishonesty. The council’s Public Protection Sub-Committee was not impressed, especially since the applicant didn’t mention any of this on their form.
During the private meeting, the applicant showed up and explained they wanted to drive taxis to support their family. They claimed they didn’t disclose their past because English isn’t their first language. They also insisted that their past behavior didn’t reflect who they are now.
But the committee wasn’t buying it. They decided to refuse the licence. Interestingly, another applicant did get a licence that day, but they received a stern warning. This other person had a history of dangerous driving but had been working as a taxi driver elsewhere for two years without any issues.
It’s a tough situation, but the council has to make sure that public safety comes first. It’s all about finding the right balance, I guess.
