Portsmouth delivered a stunning performance, thrashing Swansea City 4-0, marking a significant win in their campaign.
Paddy Lane and Ryley Towler both scored their first goals of the season. Portsmouth has been on fire at home, scoring 14 goals in their last five matches.
Josh Murphy and Colby Bishop also got in on the action, making it a real rout on New Year’s Day. This win helped Portsmouth climb out of the relegation zone, while Swansea’s two-game winning streak came to an end.
The first 20 minutes were pretty dull, with just a weak shot from Zak Swanson to show for it. But then Murphy lit things up with a goal in the 22nd minute. He slid in at the back post to score after a nice setup from Lane.
Murphy celebrated in style, giving a cheeky shush to the Swansea fans. Bishop had a couple of chances to score, but it was Lane who made it 2-0 in the 29th minute after some confusion in the Swansea defense.
Swansea had a brief moment of danger just before halftime, but they couldn’t capitalize. The second half started with Swansea pushing hard, but they fell behind again in the 62nd minute when Towler scored from a free-kick.
Swansea tried to fight back, but it was too late. Murphy set up Bishop for the final goal, sealing a massive win for Portsmouth. It was their biggest victory in the second tier since 2010. What a match!
